Olympics and Greek continued

First off, I want to say the Olympic's Opening Ceremony was awesome. It's actually my first time watching it, so I can't say that it was better than the previous years, that this one was pretty spectacular. I think what struck me as most memorable was the drumming with the lights at the beginning and the painting created by the dancers. Very pretty and amazing. It was also the first few moments, so I guess that's why it strikes me the most cause I usually remember only the first and last things, not the stuff in the middle.
Anyways, I never finished blogging about my Greek food experience, so let's continue with that.
Avglolemono-traditional Greek chicken and rice soup with egg and lemon. It tasted pretty lemon and there were chunks of chicken and rice in the soup. So it was good. I'm a soup lover. Always order soup and think of soup as the first thing.





Feta Sto Fourno- ovened baked feta served on Macedonian eggplant salad, drizzled with EVOO and balsamic glaze. I love feta cheese, and I read a few reviews where people ordered this appetizer, so I decided to try it, too. The feta cheese was extremely salty on it's own, but with the eggplant's mild flavor, it was a good combination. Really yummy and it looks good, too.



Mousaka- layers of potato, grilled eggplant and ground lamb topped with Bechamel sauce. I'm not a big fan of lamb, but this appetizer was delicious. It was sweet and cinnamon-y, not usually what you expect meat to taste like ( for chinese people at least, the meat is usually salty). Also, I love how the dish sounds when you say it, 'Moo-sak-ka'. Just amazing.



Kotopoulo Souvlaki- Chicken kebab, served with grilled vegetables, tzatziki and herb rice. Ummm...this was the main dish, but I can't remember too much about it, except that the chicken was a bit plain and kinda dry. My friends and I were discussing something at about this time, so I can't really remember the taste, I can remember what we were talking about when this dish came.



Galatopouriko is a Greek dessert of custard in phyllo. This is the wikipedia definition because the dessert menu isn't posted on the web. We were saving our stomachs for dessert, so we didn't order too much already, but feeling good when we finished everything, but we ordered dessert anyways. Ummm... the dessert was warm and sweet, as expected. That white stuff on the lower left wasn't good in my opinion, it tasted weird, liked that stuff in cakes from chinese bakeries, the so called "cream".

Dessert wine, made from muscat from somewhere. Once again, I don't listen well, or least I just don't listen when the waitress talks. I don't drink, but I had some because it was free. It was pleasant and fruity.





So, there's all the Greek poured out of me. I just, literally moments before read of a fried pork and plantain sandwich at some site. It posted pictures and everything and it looks really delicious, gotta go and try before the summer ends. This sandwich can be found at Sophies, gotta go, gotta go.

It's All Greek to Me

Hi, Welcome to the wonderful month of August. Exactly one month before I start classes again. How fast this summer has pasted, haven't done anything except work like crazy, well that's okay, I'll be stopping soon and just relax. Anyways, today I had Greek food and it was absolutely delicious. Went to Gus Place on 192 Bleecker St, New York, NY 10012. So here are some wonderful pictures of the food I had:

This is what they gave us instead of bread and butter. I can't remember what it's called because I was really paying attention when the waitress was describing it, bit was okay. Tasted a bit like sour cream and it was cold. Not as good as the hummus.





Hummus is made of chickpeas. That's what I learned. So I looked up hummus a bit earlier and it appears to be a middle eastern thing, so what's it doing in a Greek restaurant. Well, that doesn't matter to me, cause it was good. The hummus was warm and the texture was hummus like, so it was delicious. I was also really hungry at that point, but it was really yummy regardless.
